A Guide to Getting All You Deserve As A Woman In Business
A Guide to Getting All You Deserve As A Woman In Business There can be no doubt that the world has operated as a manâs world for centuries. Before 1920, women didnât even have the right to vote. It took all the men in the United States going off to war to allow women the right to hold regular jobs in the economy. Once the men came back from war, the women were so accustomed to working and liked working that it proved impossible to keep women out of the workforce from that time on. The history of men ruling the workforce isnât quick to be forgotten. Today, men still hold a majority of the CEO positions in companies and women only get paid an average of 79 cents per dollar that men make. The inequality doesnât stop there, as attitude and behaviors in the workplace further alienate women and subject them to taking more crap from coworkers and bosses than they deserve as human beings. Stand Up For Yourself As a women in the workplace, there comes a point where you just have to stand up for yourself if you want equal treatment. Do your research to know how to get a good job, know how to find references that know how to talk you up, and if, when you get the job, you find that the environment is not one that is fair towards women, either find a way to talk with your boss in a respectful manner, or find another job that will take you at your word and treat you the way you deserve. Be Diligent As mentioned above, you will come into contact with people who have an old mindset about gender roles and the way things in society ought to work. Maybe this means you have to stick around for a bit and work your way up just like anybody else. No matter the case, be diligent in all that you do and youâll get whatâs coming to you. If you learn when to not take no for an answer and you approach your coworkers and bosses with the same respect you want them to show to you, youâll hopefully start to see a change in their dispositions. Ask For Things So many people wonder why they arenât getting raises or opportunity to show what they can do in the workplace, but the reason much of the time is because they arenât asking for things. Employers like to see initiative. Often times they want to see you do more and ask for things you know that you deserve. To get what you deserve as a woman in business, donât be afraid to ask what you can do to get a raise, and ask how you can help the company in any way. Those who ask, receive. Those who donât, wait and watch life pass them by. Image Source; Image Source
